Being an Information Manager...

New series!

Has it been two years? I look at the blog and realise that time flies when having fun. In the mean time the world moves on and I pick up new learnings that I hopefully can share.
I have moved to a new job, high up in the ivory tower of a large global enterprise, looking at information architecture, enterprise wide .... and a lot is happening!

Being an Information Architect

I've got a new job, Global Data Architect and the nice thing is that I can define the job from scratch. So that means I will spend a bit less time on management of people & money (the joys of HR and Finance always overtake the content of somebody's job in the middle ranks) and a bit more data management content. It is another way of putting in practice what I have been preaching.


So what do I plan as my new activities?

• Educating others on the main principles of Data Management - I already wrote about this http://infomgr.blogspot.com/2007/06/data-management-fundamentals.html


• Defining and promoting Standards - http://infomgr.blogspot.com/2007/06/limits-of-freedom-manage-your-data.html


• Defining how much Middleware we need as glue in between our emerging standard data stores - http://infomgr.blogspot.com/2007/06/middleware.html


• But most of all I will focus on Change Management, aligning people toward our common goal of a seamless digital company - http://infomgr.blogspot.com/2007/05/art-of-im.html

What I won't do is focusing on building the perfect data model, like the Oil Industry tried with Epicenter (see http://posc.org/ - the good thing is that also these guys have rebranded themselves into Energistics and now focus on standards - so I am sure there will be synergies!).

I also will not rename this blog ;-)
